WHAT CAN PEOPLE EXPECT AT THIS YEAR’S SHOW? Matthew: Circus animals, ¯reworks, lasers, food trucks, face painting and magic tricks are on my short list for this year’s show. Ha! WHAT DO YOU APPRECIATE MOST ABOUT YOUR COHOST, MANDISA? Matthew: Mandisa and I have been friends for a long time now. We’ve written a bunch of songs together, and I have so much respect for her. She’s one of the most genuine, authentic people I know, and I am so excited to share the stage with her this year. WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE MANDISA SONG? Matthew: I love them all! “Stronger,” “Overcomer” … She sings anthems that ¯re people up! My favorite is a song we wrote together called “Not Guilty.” That song was on one of her earlier records, but it still speaks to me. WHERE DO YOU KEEP YOUR KLOVE FAN AWARD? Matthew: I keep my award in my music room, right next to my piano. I hire a cleaning crew to come in weekly and polish the award. When the cleaning crew isn’t there, I sit and stare at it night and day. Is that weird? WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE CCM ALBUMS FROM THE LAST YEAR? I can’t tell you how many memorable moments I’ve had with him; mainly laughing, but we’ve shared a few tear-jerker moments songwriting, too. WHAT IS THE BEST CCM CONCERT OR LIVE PERFORMANCE YOU’VE SEEN OVER THE COURSE OF THE LAST YEAR EXCLUDING YOUR OWN? While I was a part of the “Hits Deep Tour,” it wasn’t technically my performance, so I think I’m safe in saying that TobyMac is still my favorite live performer in Christian music! TONIGHT'S HOSTS TONIGHT'S HOSTS MATTHEW WEST WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT HOSTING THE KLOVE FAN AWARDS? Matthew: Hosting the awards is one of the highlights of my year. It’s a ton of work, but I enjoy stepping outside my comfort zone as an artist and hosting the night. It’s always a blast to get crazy and come up with new material for monologues and sketches to try and make the people laugh. When I look out and see the artists laughing, too, that’s when I know it’s going to be a good night! WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY FROM A PAST KLOVE FAN AWARDS? Matthew: My favorite memory is of a girl named Brooke, who won our hearts at the awards. Brooke battled cancer, but was determined to attend the awards, and was a fan of my music. We created a new award that night for this little girl and awarded her “prettiest girl in the room.” It was just such a sweet moment, seeing the entire crowd rally around this sweet girl.
